The Basics of Motorcycle Maintenance

Are you fairly new to motorcycling, a recent convert to the school of 2 wheels, or just someone who wants to know how to save money and wear and tear on their bike by learning basic maintenance?

Too often bike shops will sell newbies a nice shiny new motorcycle, take their commission, and send them on their way without even teaching them the basics of motorcycle maintenance. Quite often riders who have been in the game for a while are also too ashamed to ask - how to check the oil, proper chain lubing and adjustment procedure, pre-ride checks, and other things that every rider needs to frequently check or maintain for safety and to save unnecessary expenditure on replacing worn parts.

Our qualified bike mechanic can teach you all this using our bikes (or yours on request) in our hour-long course (up to 1 1/2 hours), which covers the how and why of:

Oil and filter change
Correct chain lube and adjustment technique
Detecting chain and sprocket wear
Globe replacement
Brake checks - fluid and pads
Checking tyre wear
Pre-ride checks such as oil level, coolant, lights and switches, tyre pressures
Clutch and throttle cable adjustment
Checking wheel bearings
Steering head bearing check
Changing a spark plug
Lubing of pivot points and levers

At the completion of the basics you will have an opportunity to ask questions of a qualified mechanic, and you will be given a summary of the things covered by the course. (It can be a lot of information to take in and try to remember if you're new to it!).
